PodMate

Privacy policy

Last updated: 15 October 2026

PodMate is a life counter and companion app for Magic: The Gathering. This page explains what data the app collects, why, who else handles it and what you can do about it. In short: we keep only what the app needs to work, we don't show ads, we don't track you and we never sell your data.

This policy follows the Swiss Federal Act on Data Protection (FADP) and, for users in the EU/EEA, the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).

What we collect

Your account

To play, you create an account with your email address, a password and a display name. The password is stored only as a secure hash; we can't see it. Your display name is shown to the other players in your games. We use your email address only to sign you in and to send you sign-up and password-reset codes.

Your settings

Your format and starting life, vibration, sound and turn timer choices, your list of decks (commander or deck names you type in) and whether you've seen the tutorial. They're saved to your account so they follow you to another phone.

Your finished games

For your Stats page, each finished game you play is saved with: the date and time, whether you won or lost and how, your final life, poison and the damage you dealt and took, the number of turns and rounds, your average turn time, how long the game lasted, your seat in the turn order, the deck you played, and the display names and decks of the other players and who won.

During a game

While you play, your phone shares your display name, life, counters, damage, deck and turn with the other phones in the same game, live. This is sent through our server so the phones stay in sync; it isn't stored there beyond the game itself.

ProMate purchases

If you subscribe to ProMate, Google Play handles the payment. We never see your payment details. RevenueCat (see below) receives your account's ID and the purchase receipt from Google Play, so the app knows whether you have ProMate.

The Judge page

When you search for a card, the card name you type is sent to Scryfall to find the card, its rulings and its picture. Your account isn't sent with it. The keyword list works offline.

The camera

The camera is used only to scan a game's QR code when you join. The picture is read on your phone and never stored or sent anywhere. You can refuse camera access and type the code instead.

On your phone

The app keeps the current game, your recent games, your settings, your language and the cards you last looked up on your phone, so it opens quickly and survives a weak connection. Signing out clears this, except the language.

What we don't collect

No ads, no analytics or tracking tools, no location, no contacts, no microphone and no advertising ID.

Who else handles your data

ServiceWhat forWhere
Supabase Accounts, settings, saved games and keeping a game in sync EU (Ireland)
RevenueCat Checking ProMate subscriptions USA
Google Play Payments for ProMate, app downloads and updates Worldwide
Infomaniak Sending sign-up and password-reset emails Switzerland

Where data goes to a country without adequate data protection (such as the USA), it's protected by the providers' standard contractual clauses.

How long we keep it

As long as you have an account. When you delete your account, your profile, settings and saved games are deleted straight away. Our hosting provider's backups may keep a copy for up to 7 days before it's gone for good. Live game data is kept only while the game runs.

Deleting your account

In the app: Settings → Account → Delete account. Or ask us by email; see Delete your account. Deleting your account doesn't cancel a ProMate subscription: cancel it in Google Play.

Your rights

You can ask what data we have about you, have it corrected, get a copy, have it deleted, or object to how we use it. Write to support@podmate.ch from the email address of your account. You can also complain to the Swiss Federal Data Protection and Information Commissioner (FDPIC) or, in the EU/EEA, to your local data protection authority.

Security

All data is sent encrypted (HTTPS). Each account can only read and change its own data.

Children

PodMate isn't meant for children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect their data. If you believe a child has created an account, contact us and we'll delete it.

Changes

If this policy changes, the new version will be posted here with a new date. For bigger changes, we'll also tell you in the app.
